Are You Reaping the Benefits of this Powerhouse Skincare Ingredient!?

Now that I've entered my thirties, having brighter, firmer and overall better-looking skin has become as important to me as breathing. I know, that's quite a statement. I'm not at all concerned about getting older (I actually look forward to it), but, If I can keep the dreaded fine lines and crows feet at bay for a longer period of time, than gosh darn it! that's just what I'll do. So what powerhouse ingredient has been proven by experts to protect the skin from free radicals, thus impeding the aging process? Vitamin C!

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that promotes the production of collagen — the structural protein found in the skin and other connective tissues. It also repairs signs of aging, reduces inflammation and brightens the skin.

There's a litany of brands to choose from, but be sure to find a formula that combines vitamin E (ferulic acid), since several studies show it increases vitamin C's potency. I've heard amazing things about Skinceuticals' vitamin C serum, which is quite pricey at $165 per bottle. But you can reap the benefits of Vitamin C by searching for more affordable brands that provide equally great results. I recently purchased this one by Bombshell Bathtime on Amazon. I've been using it for about a week and I've already noticed a difference in the texture of my skin. If all goes well, I will be posting a review in a few months time.

I Added Powdered Collagen to My Diet and This Happened!

Although I'm very disciplined about my skincare routine, I knew there were steps I could be taking to nourish my skin from the inside as well. I'd heard about the many benefits of collagen and had seen the ingredient listed on many skincare products over the years — so logically, ingesting it was the next step.

First, here's what you need to know about collagen:

Collagen is a protein that keeps the skin plump and smooth. It also aids in the reduction of joint pain, stiffness and inflammation. Although collagen is found naturally in the body, particularly in the skin, bones and connective tissues, most people will begin experiencing collagen depletion in their early twenties — leaving them more susceptible to fine lines, wrinkles and a loss in skin volume. Adding it to your diet is supposed to help reverse the process.

How I've been using collagen for the past seven months:

I add one teaspoon of collagen powder to a glass of lemon water each morning, and since it's virtually tasteless, I've even sprinkled it on my oatmeal. I began noticing results almost immediately! Within the span of one week, I felt more energized. I have a few fine lines at the corners of my eyes and believe me when I say, I barely notice them anymore. Also, my nails are growing like weeds. This stuff works!

FYI: My mother began incorporating collagen into her regimen around the same time I did and stresses that it's most effective when taken on an empty stomach. However, researchers are saying its just as effective when taken with food.

My Top Three Skincare Products

I have combination skin, so sometimes it can seem like my skin suffers from dissociative identity disorder. I'd have an oily t-zone one day and flaky skin the next. Fortunately, over the years I have found these go-to products to keep my skin in tip-top shape. Check them out and let me know what you think in the comments below.
I've fallen in love with this toner! It's light, refreshing and, best of all, it isn't harsh on my sensitive skin because it's alcohol free.
Contrary to what you might have heard, you can still use a face oil if you have oily skin, but be sure to apply it every other day. When my skin needs extra care, I dab some argan oil on my face at nighttime and wake up with soft, dewy skin in the morning.

This facial cleanser works wonders! I'm prone to breakouts, especially when I'm stressedand this stuff clears them right up.
