Are You Reaping the Benefits of this Powerhouse Skincare Ingredient!?

Now that I've entered my thirties, having brighter, firmer and overall better-looking skin has become as important to me as breathing. I know, that's quite a statement. I'm not at all concerned about getting older (I actually look forward to it), but, If I can keep the dreaded fine lines and crows feet at bay for a longer period of time, than gosh darn it! that's just what I'll do. So what powerhouse ingredient has been proven by experts to protect the skin from free radicals, thus impeding the aging process? Vitamin C!

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that promotes the production of collagen — the structural protein found in the skin and other connective tissues. It also repairs signs of aging, reduces inflammation and brightens the skin.

There's a litany of brands to choose from, but be sure to find a formula that combines vitamin E (ferulic acid), since several studies show it increases vitamin C's potency. I've heard amazing things about Skinceuticals' vitamin C serum, which is quite pricey at $165 per bottle. But you can reap the benefits of Vitamin C by searching for more affordable brands that provide equally great results. I recently purchased this one by Bombshell Bathtime on Amazon. I've been using it for about a week and I've already noticed a difference in the texture of my skin. If all goes well, I will be posting a review in a few months time.

The Benefits of Grapeseed Oil

This year, I started to incorporate natural oils into my beauty regimen. One of my go-to oils is coconut oil, which has been lauded by beauty experts everywhere. I use it as a makeup remover and daily moisturizer. It has also done wonders for my keratosis pilaris — which are unsightly little bumps that form on the skin.

However, I began hearing rumblings of another oil with considerable benefits — grapeseed. Eventually, the buzz reached such a level that I felt compelled to include it in my regimen. And I'm so glad I did.

Here are five reasons you should be using grapeseed oil in your routine:

To reduce signs of aging

There's a reason why beauty corporations continue to list grapeseed oil as a primary ingredient in their face creams and toners. As it turns out, grapeseed oil contains polyphenols, an antioxidant that slows down the aging process.

To prevent acne

It may sound counterintuitive to add oil to your face, especially if you're prone to oily skin. But grapeseed oil is non-comedogenic — which is another way of saying it won't clog your pores. It's also rich in linoleic acid which has antimicrobial properties that aid in the prevention of acne.

To diminish the appearance of scars

Try dabbing grapeseed oil on those pesky blemishes and scars that you can't seem to remove. It's packed with beta-carotene, vitamins C, D, E and fatty acids — all of which are used to lessen the appearance of scars.

To replenish collagen

Grapeseed oil contains flavonoids called oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes, or OCPs. OCPs help restore collagen at the cellular level, leaving skin firmer with less signs of damage.

To moisturize the skin

Grapeseed oil is light in consistency but really helps lock in moisture into the skin. And if you're sensitive to scents, you might want to give it a try since the brands I've used have little-to-no odor.

My Secret to Glowing Skin

I love to find budget-friendly ideas to add to my beauty regimen, it's so much better than buying expensive beauty products that don't always deliver on results. After I read many Indian women have long been using turmeric as a skin exfoliant, I started adding a dash of it to my daily facial moisturizer and the results have been amazing. It's like someone has shone a light beneath my skin. Turmeric is high in antioxidant and is also said to diminish wrinkles. Would you give turmeric a try?

FYI: If you're going to try turmeric, be sure to use gloves because it will stain your fingernails.
