9-to-5 Glamour

For Harper's Bazaar's September issue, London-based photographer John Akehurst, photographed statuesque British model Stephanie Rad. In the issue, Rad portrayed an alluring secretary with classic neutral ensembles and elegant yet bold, gold, diamond and pearl pieces. The 9 to 5 shift has never looked so effortlessly chic.

Devastating Pictures from World War 2

Prom Night, From a Bygone Era

With prom season nearing, I thought I’d take a look at some wholesome prom dresses from the 1950’s. The photos were taken from Ohio’s Mariemont High School, in 1958

Vedge Out

Chefs Richard Landau & Kate Jacoby are spotlighting the humble vegetable at their Philadelphia-based vegan restaurant, Vedge. The Husband and wife duo has turned unassuming veggies like the rutabaga, and its somewhat fancier distant relative, the radish, into a culinary experience like no other. Eating your veggies has never sounded so enticing.

fancy radishes, roasted & marinated, smoked tamari, nori, avocado, shishito
portabella carpaccio, salsa rustica, arugula crema, olive oil
braciole: smoked eggplant & cauliflower, italian salsa verde, cured olive
asparagus & roasted rutabaga salad, little leaves, charred onion, pistachio
pan roasted tofu, english peas, basil
salt roasted gold beets, avocado, smoked tofu, rye, capers, creamy cucumber

Yours Truly

Hello, I'm Stapha. There, that's better.
Meet the two most important people in my life:
Mom and baby brother, Alex (not exactly in that order).

I'm a Journalist and all-around lover of the written word. I'm also a vehement literary enthusiast. Darn proud of it. I suppose the last two statements go hand-in-hand but there's no harm in being repetitious, is there? Hey, I can do that here, It's my blog after all :)

When my fingers aren't clashing against the keys of my laptop, I'm either lounging beneath the concave of Bryant Park's southwest porch with Pride and Prejudice fused to one hand and a few Witchcraft cookies weighing down the other or scouring the city for simple, fortuitous pleasures.

Whether it's savoring a decadent morsel from one of Jacques Torres' quaint little chocolate shops, strolling down the narrow cobblestone streets in the West Village or tagging along for one of Alex's video-game excursions, I'm happiest when making a connection with the people and elements in my surroundings. I'm all for unexpected pleasures, for it is those moments that are ultimately embedded deep into the well of our fondest memories.

So, here's to lasting memories and sharing them with the people we love!

Young Ernest Hemingway

It’s always fascinating to catch a glimpse of a successful individual’s humble beginnings, especially a distinguished figure like Nobel Peace Prize-winning American author, Ernest Hemingway. Here he is fishing, quite possibly in his home town, Oak Park, Illinois -- sporting his over-sized straw hat and all.

Meet my Godson, Michael

This is Michael, my very first godson. He was born about two weeks ago and is incredibly docile. He hardly ever cries and if you ask any new mother, that's a godsend. He's so precious!

Dinner At Peter Luger Steakhouse

Steak for two: enormous portions
Monstrous bacon
Fresh rolls with two chunks of butter
Gold chocolate coins

I had dinner at the much venerated Peter Luger Steakhouse last week for Yves 30th birthday. We ordered steak for two, with a few yummy sides, french fried potatoes, and four slices of their sizzling super-sized bacon. Read my review for Peter Luger here.

A Touch of Red

Her style is evocative of a different time period, don’t you agree? I love her chic updo, elegant demeanor and graceful long neck. The white lace shirt is so demure and contrasted against her crimson pout and barrette -- utter perfection!
